Field notes

Georgetown's UNESCO old-town gives Penang a different texture from KL. Bayan Baru and Tanjung Tokong are the nomad neighborhoods. The DE Rantau visa applies the same way as KL, with cheaper rents and beach access.

Year-round 27-28°C, year-round humid, year-round at risk of an afternoon thunderstorm. The two slightly drier windows are Jan–Feb and Jun–Jul. Outdoor lifestyle requires accepting that you will sweat.
