Best for: Medellín or Bogotá nomads — cheap, vibrant, and easy visa.

Colombia's V-DN visa has the lowest income test on Earth (~$700/mo) and a 2-year stay length, making Medellín one of the most-welcomed nomad-base cities in 2025. Costs in Medellín have climbed sharply since 2022 (especially El Poblado), but the broader country remains cheap. Bogotá is the underrated alternative — bigger, more business-density, less nomad-saturated.

Visa story

DNV (V-DN) launched 2023 (~$700/mo income — lowest in the world); 2-year stay.

Open the per-city visa cards on each city page for the specific income tests, durations, and program names. None of this is legal advice — confirm with the consulate before booking.

How to apply for a Colombia digital nomad visa

The standard pathway for nomads moving to Colombia. Specific income tests, processing times, and document requirements live in the visa story above and per-city cards — these are the steps you take in order.

  1. Confirm income — ~$700/mo (3× minimum wage)

Colombia's V-DN requires monthly income at 3× the Colombian minimum wage (~$700 USD in 2026) — the lowest income threshold of any active DNV worldwide. Three months of bank statements is the minimum; six is safer.

  2. Apply through the Cancillería online portal

All Colombian visas are processed at cancilleria.gov.co/visas. Submit passport scan, financial proof, remote-employment or freelance evidence, and the $54–$200 application fee (varies by nationality). No consulate visit required for the V-DN.

  3. Get health insurance valid in Colombia

Private international health insurance covering Colombia for the visa duration is mandatory. SafetyWing, IMG, and local Colombian carriers all qualify; budget travel-insurance products do not.

  4. Wait 5–30 business days

Colombia's processing is among the fastest of any DNV. Approval arrives by email; the V-DN is digital — no passport sticker required.

  5. Register Cédula de Extranjería on arrival

Within 15 days of entry, register at Migración Colombia and apply for your Cédula de Extranjería (foreigner ID card). Required for opening bank accounts, signing leases, and most everyday transactions.

  6. Renew or upgrade after 2 years

The V-DN is issued for up to 2 years. After 2 years, you can apply for the Migrante (M) resident category, which is a path to permanent residency at 5 years total.

Process subject to change — confirm current rules with the Colombia consulate before booking flights.
